A familiar pressure in her lower abdomen shook Rusa out of her slumber. Cursing her small bladder, she scanned the room to make sure she was alone, and made her way to the relief bucket. After that was tended to, she was too awake to try sleeping any longer. She secured her kerchief over her braids, which despite the nap remained fast in place. She made a note to ask Dan to check them before he left her alone for the night.
The sun was still high in the sky when she made her way up to the deck. She had a good hour to kill before it’d be time for her to fetch her dinner up to the crow’s nest. Thoughts of what might be waiting for her in the galley came to an abrupt halt when she heard a raucous cheer go up from the aft deck. Turning, she followed the source of the noise, and had to fight the urge to jump and clap when she saw a sparring ring set up.
